Diving into the details

Dives are the heart of any logbook. They're not only the information you'll come back to most, they're also the hardest to organize. A single dive carries an overwhelming amount of detail: the time, the dive site, the depth, the temperature... you name it.

We spent a good number of hours iterating on a design that strikes a reasonable balance between readability, density, and completeness. What you see today is just the tip of the iceberg, with plenty more still to come. Here's a quick preview of where things stand.

The dive list

The dive list is the entry point to your dives. It's fairly standard at first glance: a list of your most precious underwater experiences, catalogued by date, dive site, and a few essentials. But look a little closer and you'll spot details that hint at what's next. Along the side, small icons surface the defining traits of each dive, like whether it was a deco dive or whether it carries notes.

The list can be searched, sorted, and filtered, and it refreshes in real time. The filtering is fairly basic for now, but we have big plans for it.

The dive overview

Now let's jump into a single dive. You land on the dive overview, the first (and for now, only) section of the dive page. Here you get an abstract of the most important information: the core details of any dive.

There isn't a lot here yet, but you can already get a feel for how we organize your dive logs. The centerpiece of this page is the dive profile, generated automatically when the data is pulled from a dive computer or imported via UDDF. For now, dives are recorded manually (or, as in this example, populated by importing an existing logbook for testing), so the profile isn't there yet.

I promise there's more on the way. Building the dive page is one of the most complex tasks we've taken on, and we're getting there one piece of information at a time.
