A wallet for your dive certifications

As a diver, one question follows me everywhere. What's your current certification? And, more often than not: what's the certification number? You've felt it too. You reach a dive center, or you finally step aboard the liveaboard, you can't wait to get in the water, and first there's the paperwork. And you need that number.

I've tried everything. A photo of the card on my phone, a line in my notes... but every time I ended up back where most of my diving already lives: my dive log software. MacDive let me keep every certification in one place, and I loved it for that.

So when I started Divebase, certifications were the very first thing I built. Before dive sites, before dives, before anything else. Here's how they come together today.

Some certifications expire

If MacDive already worked so well, you might wonder why I was so eager to rebuild it. The truth is there are details it never captured, and one stands out: many of my certifications actually expire. If you come from recreational diving, that may be news to you.

GUE credentials, for instance, are valid for three years. Renewing them means submitting proof of continuous diving, but it also means remembering to ask for the renewal in time. That last part is the hard one: I've lost count of how often I realized I'd let a credential lapse, three or four months after the fact.

Divebase tracks the expiration and shows it plainly: comfortably valid, a warning as the renewal date nears, then a clear flag once it has passed. More notifications are on the way.

Expired certifications drop out of the list automatically, so your view stays uncluttered. Don't panic, though: they're one click away whenever you want them back.

The detail you reach for most, the certification number, sits right where you can see it. Easy to read, easy to copy, even from a phone.
